On Wednesday 13 May, we had another productive Garden Group session with volunteers hard at work preparing the space for upcoming winter planting activities.

Together, the group prepped 9 veggie beds by breaking up compacted soil, adding soil conditioner where needed, and incorporating manure ready for planting.

Volunteers also manually mowed almost the entire garden, excluding some of the longer grassed sections, and completed some light pruning of the trees near the front gate.

One of our regular volunteers, Mark, took the initiative to repair the share shed and stabilise a tap support pole, helping improve the functionality and safety of the garden space.

The group also worked together to develop a seedling wish list ahead of next week’s volunteer planting day as part of National Volunteer Week.

In the coming weeks, our team will work closely with the group to establish a group agreement and discuss shared ideas for the garden moving into Winter for Spring, such as a quarterly newsletter and wish list for workshops and other initiatives at the garden.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their time and energy during the session!
