Council offers additional waste services beyond the standard three-bin kerbside collection.
Larger bins
If your household produces more waste than your standard bin can hold, you can apply for a larger bin:
- Upgrade your 140L general waste bin to 240L (additional annual charge)
- Additional recycling bins can also be arranged
The larger 240-litre garbage bin is available where there are five (5) or more people living in the household and adequate evidence has been provided to Council. The request can only be made by a the property owner, not a tenant. It is also not available to properties with shared waste services..
To apply, please complete and return the Bin Application Form (PDF) to our offices, or email a copy to gccmail@gcc.tas.gov.au.
More frequent collection
Weekly general waste collection is available for an additional charge. Contact Veolia directly on 03 6244 0000 for details.
Landlords and rental properties
If you are a landlord, you are responsible for ensuring waste services are in place for your rental property. Contact us if you need to arrange bins for a new rental property.
Multi-unit developments
Waste services for apartment buildings and townhouse developments are subject to Council’s Waste Services Standards for Multiple Dwelling Units. Contact us for more information.
Driver to collect service
If you are having difficulty putting your wheelie bins out for collection you can ask Council to arrange for them to be collected by our waste contractor. There is no cost for this service but you must provide a medical certificate from your doctor as part of the assessment, and the waste collectors must be able to collect them safely. Our Waste team can discuss your options, please contact us first.
