If you want to build a new driveway or change an existing one, you will need Council approval.
When you need approval
You need a permit from Council to:
- Create a new vehicle crossing (where your driveway meets the road)
- Alter or widen an existing vehicle crossing
- Remove a vehicle crossing
Approval is required because driveways affect road verges, footpaths, kerbs and stormwater drainage.
How to apply
- Complete the vehicle crossing application form (available on the Forms page)
- Include a site plan showing the location and dimensions of the proposed driveway
- Submit to Council with the applicable fee
Driveway standards
All driveways must be built to Council’s standard specifications. Your contractor must follow these specifications. Council may inspect the work during and after construction.
Costs
You are responsible for the cost of constructing the vehicle crossing and any associated work (such as removal of kerb and channel or construction of a footpath crossing).
