Glenorchy City Council is governed by elected Aldermen who represent the interests of the community.
Aldermen are elected by Glenorchy residents every four years.

Council has nine elected Aldermen, including the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Each Alderman is elected to represent the whole municipality — there are no wards or districts.

The Mayor
The Mayor is elected by the whole community and chairs Council meetings. The Mayor represents Council publicly and provides civic leadership.
How elections work
Local government elections in Tasmania are held every four years by postal ballot. Voting is compulsory for all enrolled residents.
The next election is scheduled for October 2026.
What Aldermen do
Elected Aldermen:
- Debate and vote on motions at Council meetings
- Set policy and approve the Council budget
- Represent the community’s interests in decision-making
- Attend community events and engage with residents
