Council rates fund the services and infrastructure that make Glenorchy a great place to live.
Rates are charged to all property owners in the Glenorchy municipality each year.

Discounts and concessions
You may be eligible for a discount on your rates if you:
- Hold a Pensioner Concession Card or Veterans’ Affairs pension card
- Own a property that qualifies for a remission
The pensioner discount can be up to 30% of rates. Contact us to find out if you are eligible.
How to pay
You can pay your rates:
- Online — credit/debit card via our website
- BPAY — use the biller code and reference number on your notice
- In person — at our Customer Service centre or at Australia Post
- Direct debit — set up regular automatic payments
- Instalments — pay in four instalments throughout the year
Financial hardship
The financial hardship policy applies if you are genuinely unable to pay your rates for your main place of residence, or commercial or industrial properties.
If you would like to apply for consideration of Financial Hardship, please complete the Financial Hardship form (PDF).

- posting to Glenorchy City Council, PO Box 103, Glenorchy TAS 7010.
If your details change, please let us know as soon as possible.
Please note: we cannot change your details over the phone.
Overdue rates
If rates are not paid by the due date, interest may be charged. Properties with rates overdue for more than three years can be sold by Council to recover the debt.
