All dogs kept in Glenorchy must be registered with Glenorchy City Council.

Registration is required by law under the Dog Control Act 2000.

When to register

Register your dog within 30 days of:

  • The dog turning 6 months old
  • Moving to Glenorchy with your dog
  • Acquiring a new dog

Registration is due for renewal each year on 1 October.

Fees

Registration fees vary depending on whether your dog is desexed and whether you hold a concession card. Current fees are listed in the Council Fees and Charges document.

Discounts are available for:

  • Desexed dogs
  • Dogs belonging to pension card holders
  • Dogs that are microchipped

How to register or renew

Register or renew online at gcc.tas.gov.au, in person at our Customer Service centre, or by phoning 03 6216 6800.

You will need to provide:

  • Your dog’s microchip number
  • Vaccination details
  • Desexing certificate (if applicable)

Microchipping

All dogs must be microchipped by the time they are 6 months old. Microchipping must be carried out by a vet.

Keeping your dog under control

Dogs must be kept on a lead in all public areas except in designated off-leash dog exercise areas. Dogs must not be left unattended in a way that allows them to stray.

Lost dogs

If your dog is lost or has been seized, contact Council.
