Our policies and commitments

Reporting a concern

If you are worried about the behaviour of an adult towards a child:

What happens when you report a concern about a Council worker

  1. Contact Council with details of what happened — when, where, who was involved, and what you saw or heard. You may report anonymously.
  2. Trained staff will review the information and follow up in accordance with the Tasmanian Government’s Reportable Conduct Scheme. Relevant authorities such as Tasmania Police or the Office of the Independent Regulator may be notified. All information is kept private and confidential.
  3. The worker will be stood down from any activities involving children while an investigation takes place.
  4. Any other organisations the worker is involved with may also be notified.
  5. Once complete, an investigation report with recommendations will be shared with all relevant parties.

Record keeping

Under Tasmanian law, records relating to child abuse must be kept for 125 years from the child’s date of birth, held securely and confidentially.
