Council runs a weed control program covering urban streets, footpaths, kerbs, gutters, and property frontages.
This includes the use of herbicides, with two main spray cycles per year — typically in September/October and March/April — plus targeted treatments as needed throughout the year. Timing is based on weed life cycles to prevent seed spread.
Opting out — the No Spray Register
If you’d prefer Council not to spray the road reserve in front of or alongside your property, you can apply to join the No Spray Register. In doing so, you take on responsibility for managing weeds on that Council land yourself.
A few things to note:
- If your property is rented or leased, the property owner must be aware of and agree to the request.
- Council will periodically inspect registered properties to ensure weeds are being managed adequately.
- If the area isn’t being maintained to a satisfactory standard, Council may resume responsibility and resume herbicide use.
