Council meetings are open to the public.

Note that closed sessions are not open to the public — you will be asked to leave before these begin.

There are four ways to have your say:

1. Public Question Time

15 minutes is set aside near the start of each meeting for public questions. When asking a question you’ll need to state your name and suburb, and your contribution must be a question rather than a comment. The Chair may decline a question or take it ‘on notice’, in which case it will be answered in writing at the next meeting. All questions and answers are recorded in the minutes.

2. Public Question Time

You can submit a written question in advance by emailing gccmail@gcc.tas.gov.au at least 7 days before the meeting. You must be present at the meeting to ask your question. Answers may be provided in the agenda or in writing at the meeting, and both the question and answer will be recorded in the minutes.

3. Addressing a Council Meeting

Members of the public can request to speak directly to Council on a particular topic. Submit your request to the Mayor by email, mail or in person:

  • Email: gccmail@gcc.tas.gov.au
  • Mail: PO Box 103, Glenorchy TAS 7010
  • In person: Customer Service Centre, 374 Main Road, Glenorchy

4. Tabling a Petition

If you’d like to table a petition, discuss your intention with the General Manager during the week before the meeting. Petitions must comply with Section 57 of the Local Government Act 1993.
