If you are buying a property in Glenorchy, here is what you need to know about Council’s role and the information available to you.

Property information

Before buying, you may want to find out:

  • Zoning and planning provisions under the Tasmanian Planning Scheme
  • Any heritage overlays or environmental constraints
  • Outstanding rates or charges on the property
  • Development history and any approved or pending permits

Section 337 certificate

A Section 337 certificate (under the Local Government Act 1993) provides information about outstanding rates, charges and orders on a property. This is usually obtained by your conveyancer as part of the settlement process.

To request a Section 337 certificate, contact us or visit our Customer Service centre.

Planning information

For information about what can be built or done on a property, visit the Planning and Building section or contact our Planning team.

Rates for new owners

If you purchase a property, you become responsible for rates from the date of settlement. Unpaid rates carry over with the property.

Contact our Rates team once settlement is complete to update your details.
