Glenorchy City Council has a clear structure with elected members setting direction and professional staff delivering services.
Elected members
Nine Aldermen, including the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, are elected by the community. They set policy, approve the budget and make decisions on behalf of the community. They do not manage day-to-day operations.
General Manager
The General Manager is responsible for running the organisation, implementing Council decisions and managing Council staff. The General Manager is appointed by and accountable to the elected Council.

Council staff are organised into departments covering:

- Infrastructure and works
- Environmental services
- Customer service
- Corporate services (finance, governance, communications, IT)
