The Public Interest Disclosures Act 2002 (Tasmania) protects people who report genuine concerns about public bodies.
What is a public interest disclosure?
A public interest disclosure (PID) is a report about:
- Improper conduct by a public officer or public body
- Conduct that is dishonest, corrupt or involves a serious waste of public resources
- Conduct that is dangerous to health, safety or the environment
Who can make a disclosure?
Anyone can make a public interest disclosure, including employees, contractors and members of the public.
How to make a disclosure
You can make a disclosure to:
- The General Manager of Glenorchy City Council
- The Ombudsman Tasmania
- The Auditor-General of Tasmania
If your disclosure is about the General Manager, make it directly to the Ombudsman.

Your protections
Making a genuine public interest disclosure protects you from reprisal. You may also be entitled to make your disclosure anonymously in some circumstances.
