A PUEC is a privately owned underground power line running from a TasNetworks power pole on the road reserve to a private property.
TasNetworks does not currently record PUECs with Before You Dig Australia, meaning workers excavating in the area may be unaware of their presence — creating a serious risk of electrocution.
As a result, Glenorchy City Council will not approve new PUEC installations in its road reserves until this safety issue is resolved.
TasNetworks is currently reviewing its position on PUECs in consultation with local councils. In the meantime, alternative options are available, including a private overhead connection pole or an electrical turret installed within the property boundary.
Council is committed to working with TasNetworks to resolve this issue and ensure the safety of all workers and community members.
